Based in Palmerston North, The Manawatu Standard serves the main Manawatu population catchment and parts of Rangitikei, southern Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa and Horowhenua provinces.
The newspaper's emphasis, particularly on the front page, is generally on strong local coverage, because this is what makes the Manawatu Standard different to other print media available to our readers. Readership surveys have shown, however, that national and international news is also of high interest to Manawatu Standard readers, so the paper also uses such stories throughout the newspaper. Sport and racing have a strong following among our readers, and the newspaper does its best to fully satisfy their interests.
